Chanel Joins the Gold Rush

Women’s Wear Daily released a sneak peek of Chanel fall 2008 beauty color collection and I have to wonder if the recent spike in gold prices were an inspiration to Peter Phillips, the new creative director of makeup. The collection will come out in July and will be followed in October by Philips’ holiday collection. Phillips tells WWD that he choose gold because of the warm metallic colors used in Coco Chanel’s apartment on Rue Cambon.

The collection includes Gold Fiction, the nail polish for $30; Facettes D’Or, a loose powder with a golden glow for $56; Gold Light Glossimer lip gloss, $26; Rouge Hydrabase lipstick shades in copper, plum and coral for $27 each, and a quad eye shadow palette with gold, coffee, ivory and dark green eye colors for $56. In a time of economic turmoil will women want to to wear gold on their fingers and toes? Chanel is hoping the new gold nail polish is the next Vamp or Black Satin but it seems an awfully opulent color for an uncertain time.

Jean Paul Gaultier Satin Boxing Shopper

Jean Paul Gaultier Satin Boxing Shopper

Carrying the Satin Boxing Shopper bag by Jean Paul Gaultier is like carrying a feminine little boxing glove with you. With its sporty stripes down each side and ruching to make it looking look like a padded glove, it’ll give you an extra feeling of “bad-ass,” even if it is pink (ahem, “violet”). But looks are where that tough edge ends, as up close you’ll notice it’s made of very girly satin. And the elastic band at the top is purely for looks — the bag actually has no closure, magnetic or otherwise. Inside it has both a center zip pocket and a side one, with a mesh lining. $680

Maison Martin Margiela Spotlight Clutch

It’s a pretty basic black and white handbag that doesn’t have much exciting going other than the bright white explosion on the front left side, but that’s nice as sometimes keeping it simple makes for a breath of fresh air. Made of soft-grained leather it has a square clutch shape with a large flap and hidden magnetic closure, plus a smooth leather lining and interior zip pocket. A very “understated statement” kind of bag. $995

Aviator sunglasses are so hot this season, but that in itself sometimes creates a problem — everybody’s wearing them. We always like to take a trend and find a slightly different way to rock it out, and that’s why we’re loving these.

Glamorous celebrity hair, on a regular folk budget

Today over at Stylelist there is a great gallery that reveals the hair care secrets of some of the best-headed celebrities out there, like Jennifers Aniston and Lopez.

Even better, most of the gallery descriptions include the drug store equivalents of the pricey Hollywood treatments. My favorite substitution is the Kelly Ripa example. She deserves to have a fuzzy, yellow Brillo pad on her head. In addition to bleaching her hair, she blows it out every single day. But her hair is shiny and glossy and pretty.

To counteract the certifiable hair abuse, she uses an Oscar Blandi jasmine hair treatment weekly. At $26 a pop, it’s out of our price range. Instead, for just $3.99 we’re heading down to Walgreens to grab the recommended Garnier Fructis Strength & Repair Melting Masque.

We do have to say, it’s doubtful that Demi Moore really stretches out the time between salon appointments just by using Redken conditioner. Oh, the product is certainly great. But at her age, with that dark shade, our guess is that she has her head in the shampoo bowl at least every four weeks. Maybe even three!

Kroell Classic Large Hobo Bags retail for $3190, making them some of the more expensive purses I have seen in awhile. Givenchy’s been around since the 50’s and has employed both John Galliano and Alexander McQueen as featured designers. Audrey Hepburn was perhaps the most notable Givenchy lover. These black leather open-toe ankle booties, are fashion forward and fun. The large silver buckle is offset by the strappy detailing, making them look both feminine and tough! These would look so cute with a black high-waisted pencil skirt. Available on shopbop.com for $995.

Summer Trends in Men’s Fashion

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Summer is getting close and there are a lot of changes and new trends to follow in Men’s Fashion. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the seaside, get a nice sun tan and relax in a beautiful weather. If you’re planning to do this you should wear few clothes and just clothes that make you feel sexy. If you’re going to wear polo shirts when you’re walking on the beach then you will surely turn some heads. For many, the average men’s shirt is just a simple clothing item but nowadays more and more men are trying to have fashionable clothes in any occasion. One of the most important developments in men’s shirts over the last hundred years, for example, has been the invention of the polo shirt. The polo shirt, or ‘tennis shirt’, was created by legendary French tennis player Rene Lacoste in 1929 as an alternative to the stiff dress shirts and ties typical of tennis attire at the time. In the 1960s, Ralph Lauren propelled the polo shirt to new heights as a prominent item in his ‘Polo’ collection; and since this time the polo shirt has become so popular that it is now a standard category of clothing. If you choose the best polo shirt and if you also match it with boxer shorts you will have a sporty and fresh look that is really confortable too. You shouldn’t wear clothes that other people tell you to, you should always pick clothes that you like in which you feel really well. Since it’s summer, you should also think about male underwear. You should choose the one that makes you look hot and that is really confortable. Summer is close so start searching for the nicest clothes for you and get ready for beautiful holidays in exotic locations.
